About Our Client

My client are one of the UK's largest manufacturer of building products supplying to retailers, trade and the general public.

The business have experienced significant growth over the last 18 months are looking for a Head of Logistics to help run a brand new distribution centre based in Wolverhampton.

The 400,000 sq ft distribution centre went live in 2020 and was part of a £30 million pound investment. They are now looking for someone to lead their operation forward as well as driving their continuous improvement strategies and projects.

Job Description

The Head of Warehousing & Distribution will be responsible for the following:

Operations Management:

  • Provide a best-in-class end to end supply chain & logistics solution for our leading manufacturing business.
  • Oversee the operations of the Distribution Centre, including people, health & safety, systems, processes, productivity management and capacity planning.
  • Work closely with your own and other departments to ensure a program of continual improvement in systems, processes and cost control.
  • Inbound & outbound logistics management working with our 3PL partners

Process improvement

  • Ensure all aspects of the Warehousing and Distribution function work efficiently in order to deliver company strategic objectives.
  • Work with senior management team to improve processes and systems across the business to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the company.
  • Monitor and review Logistics department systems and procedures in order to promote good working practices and process within the department.
  • Understand latest trends in systems, technology and working practices with a view to implementing when appropriate and relevant.

Continuous Improvement

  • In line with strategic objectives to set and measure Logistics department set of KPI's.
  • The aim to be recognised as market leaders for customer service and delivery performance.

Team Development

  • Provide the Logistics team with clear and achievable goals and objectives in order to ensure the team is managed and motivated at all times.
  • Mentor Management/Supervisory team members to develop them as individuals and strengthen the team as a whole.
  • Ensure information flow to the team is relevant and regular to give everyone full understanding of needs of the business.
  • Drive a culture of best practice and collaboration.

The Successful Applicant

What you'll need:

  • Ideally having worked in Manufacturing or FMCG although other similar industries also considered.
  • Experience in managing a UK-based distribution centre with International and multi-channel capabilities
  • Proven experience in overseeing the implementation of major system and process change including WMS.
  • Experience of logistics partner selection and management
  • Has worked in a medium sized developing company with a commercial influence.
  • Working with and managing 3rd party inbound, DC operations and outbound relationships including selection, all contractual and detailed operational management requirements
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and influencing and interacting at Executive level.
  • Have managed in excess of 150+ employees indirectly before.
  • IOSH and NEBOSH qualifications - Advantageous.
  • Have experience of Six Sigma / Prince2 methodologies - Advantageous.
  • Experience on managing budgets up to £15M+ per year.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be results driven and commercially minded.
