About Our Client

My client are part of a global manufacturing group based on the outskirts of Cardiff.

Job Description

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Planning Manager will be responsible for ensuring effective system processes are identified and used in all supply chain and planning areas including; Sales order processing, Manufacturing, Planning, Procurement and warehousing. The role will be responsible for planning, preparing, monitoring and expediting production schedules and activities in accordance with customer orders and/or forecast. Also, to act as a liaison between production, engineering, supply chain, product management, sales and marketing to ensure successful implementation of new products including trials and controlled runs. The individual needs to be innovative and forward thinking, looking for innovative continuous improvement actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively lead/participate in Management for daily improvement (MDI) and update KPI's
  • Conduct Pareto/performance gap analysis, carry out root cause and effective countermeasures
  • Manage the capacity planning and reporting function
  • Maintain daily pasting and assembly schedules to support Master Production Schedule.
  • Document key information for analysis including downtime, peak production, and scheduling accuracy
  • Accurate capacity and resource planning
  • Maintain and close Production orders to support accurate allocation of material
  • Data cleansing and continual system housekeeping
  • Develop SAP systems for all Planning activities to optimise planning resources
  • Ensure cover for holidays and sickness for all processes
  • Scrutinise all ERP processes with a view to making continual improvements
  • Focus on sales and order book loading
  • Ensure procedures for all Planning processes are written and reviewed
  • Manage, monitor and measure Customer satisfaction
  • Identify improvements in planning processes, highlight changes, test, accept and implement
  • Follow Company procedures with regard to absence and performance control in managing people
  • Ensure Management reports are completed accurately and on time
  • EMEA support and meetings on order book balancing and future demand strategies
  • Develop a pro-active approach to continual improvement within the Department
  • Develop staff through Appraisals, personal targets and training
  • Management and control of appropriate Export Licenses
  • Supporting the introduction of new product development and launch production

The Successful Applicant

As the Planning Manager you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of all operational and supply chain SAP modules including IM, MM, SD, WM, PP
  • You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record gained ERP / Material planning / Manufacturing systems
  • Numerate and literate with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively
  • Advanced level of achievement with Windows applications
  • Ability to analyse MRP driven demand, Sales orders, works orders etc.
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Understanding of Government export legislation
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methodologies would be beneficial
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • A strong focus on delivering quality customer service is essential for internal and external customers
  • Keen intelligence, reasoning powers, imagination and judgement
  • An aptitude for analytical thought
  • A proven record of willingness to take the initiative and adopt a pro-active approach
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Willing and capable of challenging the status quo and be comfortable with a fast moving, changing environment
